Annelise Ambrose Nielsen (She/They) is an actor and choreographer originally from the South Shore of Boston. After graduating with a BA in Theater from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Nielsen moved to NYC, discovering new depths in authentic grounded performance with classes at MNActing Studio, Upright Citizens Brigade, Actors Green Room, a few standup open mic nights, and credits across stage and screen, including: THROUGH THE WREN - an immersive gothic fairytale featured at Wildrence, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF QUEEN MARGARET at Theater For The New City, THE DREAM PLAY and Brecht’s SEVEN DEADLY SINS - lead by Paulina Jonsdottir (under the guidance of Ann Bogart) at Columbia’s Shapiro Theater, THE BRINK OF US at South Oxford Space, VIVA PICTURES’ The Samaritans and IFC’s COMEDY CRIB’s Wedding Season .
In September 2019, Nielsen moved to Copenhagen to attend København Film og Teaterskole, in hopes of further connecting to danish culture, language, and performance. A staring role in House of International Theater’s Southern Bedfellows was unfortunately interrupted by the pandemic.
2020 brought a new set of challenges but Nielsen has remained active — re-stageing The Life and Death of Queen Margaret, choreographing The Moors, guest lecturing at CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY, and starting a workshop/new production All Via Zoom.
Nielsen still works both in the US and Copenhagen - currently preparing for a tour of When the Mind’s Free (July - August 2024), and a production on The Duchess, The Serpent, and The Crow (Fall 2024).
As a choreographer she enjoys helping even the most uncoordinated inhabit their bodies and has a talent for unlocking individuals’ unique quality of movement. Past credits include: When the Mind’s Free, The Life and Death of Queen Margaret, Stupid F*king Bird, Winter’s Tale, Urinetown, and Peter Pan.
